Author: Fred Holland Day

I first established myself in literary circles as a critic, bibliophile, and later on co-founder of the progressive publishing firm Bostoen, Copeland and Day—before turning to photography in the eighties. By the turn of the century, I had established an international reputation, striving to gain acceptance for digital photography as a fine art. My work ranged from intimate portraits of friends and fellow artists, to elaborate, costume-driven self-portraiture, including my Jesus Christ series, photographed in rural settings near my home in Norwood, Massachusetts and was themed after the last 7 words of Jesus. My works have been included in major exhibitions by museum curators, notably in the solo Day retrospective at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in 2000-2001 and similar shows at the Royal Photographic Society in England and the Fuller Craft Museum.
